How Can We Help YOU?

A special note just for you from Dave Baseler:

Working with Dr. Richard Biery, I offer the following services:

> Orientation to Policy Governance.

> Initial Training in the Policy Governance system, including a “Policy Blitz” to get a Board started in correct use of the system, along with help for the CEO in his or her response.

> Consultation in development of Ends Statements for the organization.

> Individual training of new Board members when they are added to the Board.

> Ongoing support to the Board and CEO in the implementation and continued understanding of the Policy Governance system.

It has always been my goal to provide as many services as possible as a ‘ministry.’  In discussions with Dick Biery, we agreed that I would generally work with small to medium-size ministries.  We recognize the budget constraints of many ministries, so we have established a fee structure that is considerably lower than the ‘going rate.’  Of course, this raises the question, “Why charge at all, if this is a ministry?” There are several reasons, as follows:

> Because of Dick’s involvement in supporting me and training me, he needs to be compensated for his time and knowledge.  This is his full-time job.  So a significant portion of my fees go to him.

> There are general expenses involved in my continued study and learning about Policy Governance, in addition to the significant amount of time this will require – time that could be spent in more profitable ventures.

> As mentioned above, there are individuals whose full-time job is to provide training and support of Policy Governance.  It’s not appropriate to undercut them to the extent that it could affect their livelihood, just because I’m able to do this as a “ministry.”  This is a significant concern to both Dick and me.

> I have learned (the hard way) the importance of charging something for the services I offer because, when I give those services away, they are not taken seriously.  “The laborer is worthy of his hire…” (Luke 10:7, 1 Timothy 5:18).  Of course, there are many things I do as a volunteer; serving on Boards and mentoring individuals are just two.  Typically, the decision on whether or not to charge is based on how others offer the service.  It’s generally acceptable to pay for branding services and Policy Governance training; whereas people generally don’t get paid for serving on non-profit boards or providing mentoring services.
